History
Porsche Holding – From family business to global player
What originated in 1947 as a family business from the legacy of the ingenious designer Ferdinand Porsche is now a global player. We, Porsche Holding Salzburg, a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, are one of the largest and most successful European automotive trade organizations, operating on three continents and in a total of 29 countries. Our motivation: the fascination of the automobile. Our drive: the innovative power of two families across generations. Our backbone: highly competent employees with a pioneering spirit and entrepreneurship.
Into the Future as a Group
2011 to Today
2011 marks the beginning of a new era for our company. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, we are continuing our international growth course to become one of the largest and most successful European automotive dealerships in the world.
Growth & Internationalisation
1971 to 2010
After the withdrawal of all family members from operational functions, Porsche Holding Salzburg was founded in 1974. Under the new umbrella, the company sets an important structural course and in the early 1990s takes advantage of the once-in-a-century opportunity of large-scale internationalization.
Louise Piëch & Ferry Porsche
1945 to 1970
After the Second World War, Ferdinand Porsche's children Louise Piëch and Ferry Porsche pushed ahead with the new start. In Salzburg, Louise Piëch lays the foundation for the company's rapid development with the import of Volkswagen vehicles, while Ferry Porsche establishes today's Porsche AG in Stuttgart.
Ferdinand Porsche
1875 to 1945
The history of our company begins with Ferdinand Porsche: the ingenious designer invents the electric wheel hub motor, develops successful racing cars and creates a legend: the Volkswagen.
